WSURA President Mary Kenton happily reports that retiree philanthropy has reached the million-dollar level.
Since 2001, retiree donations have reached $1,017,750, with $890,000 coming in the past five years.
As of late November 2016, 145 retirees have donated $133,314, for an average gift of $919.00. Five gifts this year were $10,000 or more.
Most of the retiree donations go to scholarships throughout the university, as well as to special projects.
All members of the WSURA Board of Trustees are 2016 donors, with four members making gifts of $500 or more.
The WSURA has a scholarship endowment, named in honor of Nick Davis, a long time university employee and WSURA member. That fund has now reached $73,000 with its earnings going to fund three $1,500 scholarships. The Board has set a goal of reaching $90,000 by 2018 in order to fully fund the scholarship program.
The University Foundation phone campaign to retirees is ongoing through the month of December.
