Halyna "Helen" Christian, passed away the morning of Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
Halyna retired from Wright State University School of Medicine. She loved her job and coworkers, including Julia Williams, Melanie Miller and one of her best friends, Debra Hendershot. She spent a lot of her free time with a local service sorority and friend Sally Frost doing volunteer work for Hospice of Dayton and other charities. Halyna truly loved her volunteer work and taking care of others. She had a very big and giving heart. In the words of her friend Melanie, "everybody needs a Helen—she just took care of so many people in so many ways." She will be missed.
Halyna was born in Usta Zelena, Ukraine, the daughter of Maria and Vladimir Splawnyk (deceased). She was the fourth of five siblings. Sister, Nadia Bakun and brother-in-law Walter Bakun (both deceased) of Denville, New Jersey; brother, Peter Splawnyk and sister-in-law Connie Splawnyk of Bluffton, South Carolina; sister, Daria Binazeski and brother-in-law Peter Binazeski of Bluffton, South Carolina; and sister, Sandy DiGirolamo of East Hanover, New Jersey. Halyna was married to her husband, James (Jim) Christian of Kettering, Ohio for 49 years. She is also survived by her son, Michael Christian of Centerville, Ohio; daughter, Stacie Haber and son-in-law Brett Kavanagh of Melbourne, Australia; and grandchildren, Amanda Marshall and Samuel Christian of Centerville, Ohio.
