What courses are offered?
English 1100 – Academic Writing and Reading: Introduces students to principles of effective multi-literacy practices required of college-level thinkers, writers, readers, and communicators. Students are introduced to writing for different contexts with an emphasis on the differences between informal writing and formal, revised, research-based academic writing. Students are taught how to apply the writing process to plan a longer writing project, conduct college-level research, organize drafts, incorporate sources into their writing, give feedback to peer writers, receive feedback from peer writers, and refine their writing style for different audiences and purposes.
Developmental Education 0100 – Foundations for Academic Writing and Reading: Intensive instruction in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Emphasizes reflection, revision, collaboration, and self-assessment to prepare students for collegiate success. ENG is online and they complete on their own schedule and DEV has meeting times.

What is the course registration process?
An advisor from the Student Success Center will reach out to you to help you get registered. You must be enrolled into the course before you can purchase the textbook from the Wright State bookstore.
-
Is there a cost for the textbook used in this course?
Yes. The textbook Hello, Writer. An Academic Writing Guide by David Starkey cost $44.99 to $85.77 depending on your selection. The textbook is available to rent, download, or purchase new or used.
-
What happens if I decide not to finish the course this summer?
These are college courses that are graded for credit and apply to your degree. As such, if you decide to not complete the course after it has started, it would be like any other course and would result in poor academic standing. Please review the academic standing standards for more details.
-
Will this class meet in person or online, or hybrid?
Both are online; ENG 1100 is self-paced; DEV 0100 is synchronic and meet as a group.
-
Will I receive any charges or a bill for participating in this program?
Yes, registering in the courses for the program will automatically generate a tuition charge. However, because you have been selected for this program, your tuition and fees will be covered for the six hours of courses for the program. Your only financial responsibility will be for the textbook for the course.
