About
The Latino Center is a wholistic strategy that supports the Hispanic/Latino student experience through all stages of university life. The center aids all Wright State University colleges and departments in the recruitment, retention, and connection of Latino students by being a key bridge between the university and the community. The Latino Center seeks to be a home for past, current, and future students, as well as a place for students to find their familia and role models on campus.
Mission
The Latino Center fosters a supportive environment that enhances the success of Latino students and the Latino community. We will recruit, retain, empower, graduate, and advance Latino/Hispanic students at Wright State University.
Vision
Wright State University's Latino Center will be the model for the Midwest in raising the educational attainment level of the Latino community.
Goals
The Wright State University Latino Center is strongly committed to the following:
- Providing a safe space for all students irrespective of class, sexual orientation, nationality, citizenship, or immigrant status
- Increasing academic, social, and leadership opportunities for Latino/Hispanic students at Wright State
- Increasing collaborative efforts amongst Latino/Hispanic faculty, staff, students, and community
- Increasing awareness of the value of family involvement in a student's educational journey and engaging the family through outreach initiatives
- Aiding in the increase of Latino/Hispanic student retention, persistence, course completion and graduation rates
- Increasing awareness of the Latino/Hispanic student experience
Our Services
- Support all Wright State University colleges and departments in the recruitment of Latino students and families via bilingual campus visits, events and campus tours
- Host the Latino Center Visit Day to provide the Latino community a bilingual and culturally sensitive campus visit experience
- Host Latino Center Summer Programs to prepare the next generation with college success and career readiness skills
- Support new incoming students with programs delivered through the Latino cultural lens:
- Deliver the "Latino Si Se Puede Course" to teach new incoming students college success strategies needed for a positive first year experience
- Provide the Latino Success Peer Mentorship Program to connect new incoming students with current students and assist them with the transition to college life
- Support current students and the local community with programs that increase sense of belonging, enhance the success of the local community, and expose campus to Hispanic/Latino culture.
- Festivities celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
- Provide regular check ins via our "La Comida" events
- Collaborate with students and the community to provide the free, monthly, bilingual Latino Wellness Clinic
- Support the workforce development of students and their families through collaborations with businesses via the Amigos Latinos Career and Internship Fair
- Celebrate graduates each semester via the Latino Student Graduation Ceremony
- Connect with Alumni and businesses to raise funds that support scholarships and programs via the Amigos Latinos Gala
