Scholarships

LGBTQA Community Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Office of Student Activities and made possible by the generous donations of Daniel Hernandez Jr., the first responder to U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords, the Rainbow Alliance, and Wright State faculty, staff, and alumni. The scholarship is awarded annually to one eligible undergraduate student who has demonstrated leadership, campus involvement, a commitment to the LGBTQA community, and has a need for scholarship support. While only one recipient is awarded each year, applicants can apply annually as long as they are eligible for consideration.

  • The annual award amount varies and is applied to your bursar's account.
  • You must be registered for classes with a minimum of six credit hours.
  • You must continue as a Wright State student after the scholarship is awarded.
  • You must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA or higher at the time of application.
  • You must self-identify as part of the LGBTQA community

Potential recipients must submit a complete application and two letters of reference.

Kearstyn Bowen

Petey Sanchez

"My name is Petey Sanchez, I use he/him/his pronouns, I am a senior majoring in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.


Darrell Stanley Scholarship

This memorial scholarship supports undergraduate seniors who identify as LGBTQA. You must be living an authentic life and be personally responsible for your education to quality. Number and amount of awards will vary. 

To be eligible, you must: 

  • be graduating within 12 months
  • be part of the LGBTQA community
  • be living an authentic life
  • be personally responsible for your education
  • be employed part-time or in an internship position
  • be in good academic standing
  • be active in leadership roles
  • include an essay with the application demonstrating their active involvement as a leader on- or off-campus. Your leadership must demonstrate strength of character, courage in the face of adversity, and the behavior of a role model.

"My name is Shanna Meek and I use he/they pronouns. I am a senior communication studies major with a minor in health communication. I am a community engagement coordinator for the Office of LGBTQA Affairs, and a co-facilitator of TAIGA.

Ariel Ya'akov

Recognition Year:

"My name is Ariel Ya'akov and my pronouns are they, them, and theirs. I am a senior majoring in French and comparative religious studies and minoring in German. I am a Dayton native,  and grew up in Kettering.

Application Process and Deadline

All applications must go through the Wright State University scholarship application. Select YES to identifying as a member of the LGBTQA+ community to be considered for this scholarship. The LGBTQA Center advisory committee will review the applications to determine the recipient.
