Wright State University has named a permanent dean for its College of Engineering and Computer Science, wrapping up a 16-month internal search.
Brian Rigling, the college's interim dean since July 2018, assumed the position on an interim basis Dec. 1, the college announced Tuesday.
Rigling succeeded Nathan Klingbeil, professor of mechanical and materials engineering at Wright State University, who previously held the role for more than five years.
Rigling has been with the university since 2004 as a professor and chaired WSU's department of electrical engineering from 2014 to 2018. Under his leadership, the department established a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering technology, as well as a doctorate program in electrical engineering.
He also oversaw an increase for the department's externally funded research awards, which grew to $8 million in 2018. Before joining Wright State, he spent four years as a senior systems engineer for Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC).
The announcement marks the latest in a series of leadership changes for Wright State. The university in October announced its eighth president, Susan Edwards, who will assume the role Jan. 1. Earlier this month, Wright State also selected an interim provost to succeed Edwards; and in November, the university named a permanent dean for the Raj Soin College of Business.
