Program Structure
Tri-Annual Kickoff & Training Events
Each fall, spring, and summer, UCIE hosts engaging and informative kickoff events to welcome new participants and provide essential training for everyone involved. These events are mandatory for new participants, where they will meet their assigned connection in a structured setting and learn about program expectations, cultural sensitivity, and safety guidelines. Our first one will be held on SEPTEMBER 6th, 2025. Anyone who signs up over the Summer term will be required to attend this event before they start meeting with their connection in the Fall Term.
For returning participants, attendance is encouraged as a refresher and a chance to offer mentorship and insights to newcomers. These events will feature icebreakers, interactive discussions, and cultural activities, ensuring that all participants feel comfortable and prepared to make lasting connections.
Monthly Meetings
Participants are encouraged to meet at least once a month for a meal, event, or shared activity. The first meeting is recommended to take place in a public setting such as a café, campus event, museum, or park to help build comfort and familiarity. After the initial meeting, connections can decide how and where to meet moving forward. These meetings are meant to encourage cultural exchange and support, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all.
Participant Sign-Ups & Interviews
Sign-ups for Wright Connections are open each Fall, Spring, and Summer. International students will complete a survey to share their interests, background, and preferences, while faculty, staff, students, and local families will do the same. UCIE uses this information to make the best possible matches.
As part of the sign-up process, hosts are required to undergo a UCIE interview and potentially a background check. This ensures a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.
Ongoing Support & Engagement
UCIE provides continuous support throughout the program with regular check-ins, optional group outings, and additional events. We gather feedback from participants to refine and enhance the program over time, ensuring that each experience is positive and enriching for everyone.

There are very few requirements but numerous opportunities to make lasting memories. This was an overwhelmingly enjoyable experience."-Lucas Wenrick, Wright State Alum, IFP Past participant
