Wright State Athletics Brand

On this page:

The Wright State University Athletics brand identity is designed to build a positive image for Wright State Athletics that is consistent, recognizable, and respected.

All university athletics marks are registered trademarks and must be used in accordance with the guidelines outlined in this brandbook. This includes secondary and tertiary marks, to which these same rules apply.

Athletics marks are restricted to athletics-related marketing and communications. They should not be used on printed materials or websites that promote academics or university programs and services without permission from the Office of Marketing and Athletics. However, Athletics marks can be used on materials to promote school spirit.

More information about the Wright State University Athletics brand, marks, and uniform designs can be found at wsuraiders.com/brand.

Primary Athletic Mark

The Wright State University Athletics logo is the primary representation of the brand identity and the main identifier for Athletics. The full-color logo should be used whenever possible. However, a one-color or two-color outline option is available for applications where full color is not achievable or desired.

Secondary Marks

Wright State University Athletics has secondary marks that add variety while still remaining consistent with the brand. These secondary marks will follow the same guidelines as the primary logo.

This is an alternative mark that should be used with either as separate Wright State wordmark or text, if possible. Exceptions can be granted by Athletics and the Office of Marketing.

The valley wordmark can be used on materials that have small spaces.

The youth mark is used primarily for promotion of athletics-related youth events and merchandise. It may only be used with permission from Athletics and the Office of Marketing.

This mark is used to promote the Raider Athletic Fund, the annual fundraising campaign for Wright State Athletics.

This mark is used to promote the Wright State Athletics’ priorities as they relate to its student-athletes. Those priorities are to treat student-athletes as people first, students second, and athletes third.

Typography

Redzone is the primary display typeface for Wright State Athletics. “Display” means it is appropriate only for high-impact text in small amounts, such as headlines, titles, banners, posters, print and digital ads, merchandise, and uniforms. It should never be used for large bodies of copy.

The secondary sans-serif typeface Univers is used to complement the primary typeface and directly tie back to the university’s identity. Univers is considered a “text” font, meaning it is appropriate for large areas of copy, secondary headlines and subheads, and copy at small point sizes.

Sports-Specific Lockups

Sport-specific marks are secondary identity lockups used to designate Athletic programs. There are many variations based on background and layout.

These lockups either combine the Wright State Athletics logo with the team name in Redzone, or the Wright State Athletics wordmark with the team name in Univers.

Lake Campus Athletics Logo

The Laker is the official mascot of Wright State University–Lake Campus athletics.

The Laker is based on the local legend of a creature named the Hoedag. According to this legend, the Hoedag lives in Grand Lake St. Marys. The Lake Campus is located on this lake’s northern shore.

The guidelines established in this brandbook are also to be applied to the Lake Campus Athletics logo and any usage of its brand.

Campus Recreation and Club Sports

The Office of Campus Recreation provides recreational and wellness opportunities for the Wright State community through its facilities, programs, and services. Campus Recreation also oversees student groups that participate in sport and/or physical activities: Recreational Teams and Competitive Club Sports.

Groups in the Competitive Club Sports division are recognized student groups that practice consistently and compete in sport and/or physical activities against other universities on a regular basis.

The Competitive Club Sports division logo(s) has been designated for use by club sports registered with Campus Recreation. The guidelines established in this brandbook are also to be applied to the Competitive Club Sports division logo(s) and any usage of its brand.
