A partnership between one of the region’s largest universities and a Dayton healthcare company is embarking on a new phase. A planned announcement comes as the two entities continue to work together to further initiatives in healthcare education.

Premier Health and Wright State University will make a significant update at the university board of trustees meeting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15. It will detail the latest affiliation milestone between the two entities, a media advisory stated.

While no specific details were provided, it’s no secret Wright State and Premier Health have been dedicated partners for years now. In 2021, the duo struck an academic affiliation agreement that would continue collaboration on the training of medical students, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in Southwest Ohio. The initial affiliation agreement also further partnerships on academic, clinical and research initiatives.

The academic affiliation agreement formalized a longstanding working relationship that educates and retains physicians and other health care providers; elevates the quality, consistency and cost efficiency of patient care; creates opportunities to develop new or improved educational and clinical programs; and advances economic development locally.

The agreement included Boonshoft School of Medicine programs and Wright State's nursing and health sciences programs. Premier Health trains most Boonshoft School of Medicine residents, medical students and many graduates who work in the Miami Valley, and employs numerous Wright State nursing graduates.

The agreement also framed Wright State and Premier Health as preferred partners, with the two institutions prioritizing to work with each other on new initiatives. The upcoming announcement is indicative of major moves forward with the agreement.
