Requirements
Registration
Each student organization must participate in the annual registration process to be a recognized student organization through Student Involvement and Leadership. Student organizations will result to their constitution when the term of their officers and leadership positions begin and end. Registration periods are available on an academic term and a calendar term.
The registration application is the first part of completing the SORT program. Student organizations will receive a notification when their registration application is open on the landing page of their student organization Engage profile. Student organizations must provide the following information in their registration application:
- One (1) president*
- One (1) treasurer*
- One (1) full-time faculty or staff advisor
- A constitution and/or bylaws
- A minimum of 6 members.
* The president and treasurer are not permitted to be the same student for liability purposes.
Training
Following the registration application, student organization leaders must complete the required trainings to obtain active status as a registered student organization. The training is provided online throughout each open registration period. All training must be completed by the indicated deadline to participate in campus-wide events.
All SORT trainings will be provided online through Engage, where students can complete the training at their own leisure. Online trainings can take 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Online trainings will have a pre-recorded video to watch, follow, and form to answer questions and participate in activities. For all trainings, student leaders must complete the training-specific form to be counted for their attendance. Student organization leaders are required to pass all SORT trainings with an 80% or higher. The training is designed for the student leader to participate in role-specific training to elevate their knowledge and best prepare them for their role and responsibilities.

Officer Requirements
To meet the minimum requirements, each student organization's president and treasurer must complete their role-specific training. At the same time, the vice president and secretary are recommended to complete the training to best prepare for their role and responsibilities. The tier level of your organization determines what trainings the leadership positions are required to complete.
