About the Identifying Students at Risk Subcommittee

The Identifying Students at Risk Subcommittee is responsible for two overarching tasks: identifying students at risk for mental health problems and/or suicidal behavior, while also promoting emotional health awareness among those who interact with students the most, so those ‘gatekeepers’ can connect students to the appropriate services.

Objective Progress Status
7.1 Develop, expand, or strengthen mental health training program for relevant campus faculty and staff in identifying, reaching out to, and referring students who may be struggling. Spring 2024: All staff and faculty are required to become certified in Mental Health First Aid Training, and the training process began in April 2024.  circle-half-stroke In Progress
7.2 Train students to identify, reach out to, and refer their friends/peers who may be struggling with mental health issues or substance issues. Spring 2024: Mental Health Peer Mentor Program is underway, which includes training on campus resources and how to help a friend/peer who is experiencing mental distress.  circle-half-stroke In Progress
7.3 Develop/refine a protocol for reporting students of concern. Spring 2024: CARES Report tool is located at the bottom of each webpage within the wright.edu domain. Current evaluation of protocol is in process. circle-half-stroke In Progress
