Winter Break 2024 Move-Out Procedures

Residents must be enrolled in classes to reside in campus housing. The deadline to register for spring classes is Thursday, December 12, 2024. If you are not registered, you will be required to move out no later than 7 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024.

Spring 2025 Move-Out Procedures

Residents not signed up for summer housing must check out by 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 (excluding Village residents). Any resident who has not completed their move-out and returned keys in their move-out envelope by the deadline will be billed a $200 improper move-out fee, plus daily fees.

Residents who would like to request a move-out date extension need to email housing@wright.edu by Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Requests will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis. Daily fees may be assessed.
 



Steps for Proper Move-Out

Move out all of your personal belongings and clean thoroughly, including drawers, appliances, cabinets, wardrobe, under the bed, etc. Please see the detailed cleaning lists for each community below and follow the guidelines.

Obtain your move-out envelope. These are available at both the Community Center and The Hub. As a courtesy, you may request it to be delivered to you 48 hours in advance.

Once all of your belongings are removed and your assigned space is thoroughly cleaned, lock the door(s), place your keys in your completed move-out envelope, and drop off the envelope at your respective housing office. Hamilton Hall and Forest Lane residents should return their keys to the Community Center, under the water tower. The Woods, Honors Hall, College Park, University Park, and The Village residents should return their keys to The Hub, located next to The Village apartments. If you are not able to return your move-out envelope during office hours, simply place it in the overnight key drop box at each location.

Mail forwarding: Make sure to update your Wright State mailing override and primary addresses in WINGS Express. Also, we highly recommend you request mail forwarding service via USPS.com. If you do not complete this form online, you will not be able to receive any USPS mail after you move out. Another tip: don’t forget to delete your campus address from any accounts you typically use to receive packages such as Amazon.

After all residents move out, housing staff will inspect all rooms to assess for any damages. Aside from physical alterations of the room, the most common damage charge is due to the room not being returned to a clean condition. We encourage you to review the detailed guide to avoid any charges upon move-out. Any damage charges for a shared space with be divided equally between the assigned residents.
 



The Village

Village residents have until February 28, 2025 to retain their apartment for Fall 2025.

If you are graduating at the end of spring or over the summer and you have not yet communicated that to our office, please log into your Housing Portal via WINGS Express and complete the “Request for Release 1st Appeal” to submit the Automatic Release Form. If you are not graduating and are requesting to be released from your housing contract, you have to submit an appeal via the same link and provide the requested documentation.

Detailed Cleaning Lists
 

    College and University Parks Apartments

    • Remove all personal belongings. Don’t forget to check your closets, drawers, cabinets, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and under the bed.
    • Remove all trash.
    • Wipe down all surfaces with a household cleaner.
    • Sweep and mop or vacuum the entire apartment. Don’t forget to check under the couch cushions.
    • Make sure to remove all tape, staples, push pins, and poster tacks from the walls. Additionally, all unauthorized paint, stickers, picture hangers, decals, etc., must be removed from the walls, windows, mirrors, furniture, and doors. Do not try to fill or patch any holes in the drywall.

    Cleaning the Bathroom

    • Clean the bathroom fixtures including the sink, toilet, bathtub, shower stall, etc. Use mildew/mold remover. Clean the dirt and soap scum in the sink and bathtub. Clean the entire toilet, not just the seat and the bowl. 
    • Sweep and mop the bathroom floor.
    • Clean the medicine cabinet and under the sink. Wipe down all the shelves. Clean the mirror. Dust the light globe.
    • Clean the bathroom sink vanity/cabinet. Wipe down the bottom shelf and cabinet doors.

    Cleaning the Kitchen

    • Remove all food items from the refrigerator and clean all shelves and trays. Take the crisper drawers out and clean under them. Don't forget to check the butter door. Use a household cleaner or mild soap and water. Leave refrigerators plugged in and on.
    • Clean the oven and stove. All baked food should be removed from the oven and racks.
    • Clean the inside and the outside of the microwave; use hot soapy water. Do not forget to clean the inside ceiling of the microwave. Do not use abrasives on painted or plastic surfaces.  
    • Clean exteriors/interiors of all appliances and kitchen sink using a household cleaner or mild soap and water.   
    • Check all items have been removed from the dishwasher, cabinets, and on top of the cabinets. Remove any debris from the bottom drain pan in the dishwasher.
    • All trash should be disposed of in the dumpsters. Trash or abandoned items left in the building will be identified back to an apartment and that apartment will be billed $25 per bag.

     

    Forest Lane Apartments

    • Clean the doors in your apartment. Clean and remove any marks, being especially careful near the handles, edges, and along the bottom. Window and household cleaners work well for removing most marks.
    • Clean the windows and sills so they are free of dust and dirt. Wash the inside of the windows only.
    • All unauthorized paint, stickers, picture hangers, decals, etc., must be removed from the walls, windows, mirrors, furniture, and doors. Do not try to fill or patch nail or fist holes in the drywall.
    • Vacuum, sweep, and mop the entire apartment. Vacuum under and around all furniture. Vacuum under the furniture cushions.  All carpet stains and high-traffic areas should be cleaned. 
    • Remove all personal belongings from the building. Remove your bike from the bike rack. Bikes left for the summer might be removed and disposed of.
    • Dust off all closet shelves.
    • Empty and dust out all drawers.
    • Return all university furniture to its proper location.
    • Take down and clean out all the dust and dead bugs that are in the light globes. Turn the light off and let the glass globe cool down before you handle it.

    Cleaning the bathroom

    • Clean bathroom fixtures including the sink, toilet, bathtub, shower stall, etc. Clean off all soap scum buildup from the shower walls. Use mildew/mold remover. Clean all the dirt and soap scum off the sink and bathtub. Clean the entire toilet, not just the seat and the bowl. 
    • Clean any mold/mildew off the shower curtain. Sweep and mop the bathroom floor.
    • Clean the sink, counter, and area under the sink. Clean the mirror. Dust off the light globe.

    Cleaning the Kitchen

    • Remove all food items from the refrigerator and clean all the shelves and trays. Take the crisper drawers out and clean under them. Check the butter door. Use a household cleaner or mild soap and water.  
    • Please leave the refrigerator plugged in and ON and set it on “3”.
    • Clean the oven and stove. Make sure you clean the drip pans and under the burners; use oven cleaner and SOS steel wool pads. Clean the exhaust fan screen above the stove; use hot soapy water. All baked-on food should be removed from the oven, drip pans, racks, and elements.
    • Clean the exteriors of all appliances and the kitchen sink using a household cleaner or mild soap and water. 
    • Double check all items have been removed from the dishwasher, cabinets, and on top of the cabinets. 
    • All trash bags should be disposed of in the dumpsters. Trash or abandoned items left in the building will be identified back to an apartment and that apartment will be billed $25 per bag.

     

    Hamilton Hall

    • Clean the doors of your room. Leave the door without marks, and clean carefully near the handles, edges, and along the bottom. Window and household cleaners work well for removing most marks. Remove all tape and tape marks from the door.
    • The hallway must be clear/trash-free and the area outside of the door must be clean. All tape marks on and around the door must be cleaned off.
    • Clean the window and sill so they are free of dust. Wash the inside of the window.
    • All unauthorized paint, stickers, glow-in-the-dark stars, picture hangers, decals, etc., must be removed from the walls, ceilings, windows, mirrors, furniture, and doors.
    • Sweep and mop the entire room. Clean under and around all furniture.  Black marks and carpet tape must be removed.
    • Dust and clean wardrobe tops and wall lights.
    • Remove all personal belongings from the building. No storage space will be available in the building over the summer.
    • Remove any bikes from the outside bike racks and take them home. Bikes left in the racks for the summer will be removed and disposed of.  
    • Remove all food items from the refrigerator, defrost, and clean the interior. Clean up the water as the ice melts. Use a household cleaner or mild soap and water. Let the ice melt on its own; (this may take several hours, so please plan accordingly); do not use a sharp object to remove the ice. Sharp objects can damage the refrigerator and result in expensive replacement costs. After defrosting re-clean the fridge/freezer, turn it off, and leave the door ajar to prevent odor/mildew accumulation.
    • Clean the inside and outside of the microwave. Use mild soap and water. Don’t forget to clean the inside ceiling of the microwave. Please do NOT use a scratchpad or abrasive powder on the plastic front of the microwave.
    • Each room must contain the original furniture. The furniture must be put back in the proper configuration. All furniture that is not part of the university furnishings must be removed from the building.
    • The window curtain should be properly hooked to the curtain rod.
    • Bag up your unwanted clothing and unopened nonperishable food and drop them off at the food and clothing drive barrels in the Hamilton Lobby. We are collecting unwanted items for the needy.
    • Garbage bags will be available outside the Hamilton Hall Office. Trash or abandoned items left in the building will be identified back to a room and that room will be billed at least $25. 
    • Desk/dresser drawers and wardrobes must be emptied of belongings and wiped out.
    • Discard all bags of trash in the trash rooms. Unwanted furniture, carpet rolls, and large items must be placed in the dumpster in front of Hamilton. Do not place trash in the hallways, lounges, or stairwells. Improper disposal of trash will result in an improper check-out fee. Free trash bags are available at the office in the lobby.

     

    Honors and The Woods

    • Remove all personal belongings. Don’t forget to check under the bed and all drawers/cabinets.
    • Remove all trash. If the dumpster is full, please go to another dumpster. DO NOT leave the bag on the ground. A large, open-top dumpster will be placed within the communities to accommodate the extra trash.
    • Wipe down all surfaces with a household cleaner.
    • Sweep and mop or vacuum the entire room.
    • Remove all staples, nails, push pins, double-sided tape, glow-in-the-dark stickers, and LED light strips from walls/ceilings.
    • Clean your room doors. Make sure all tape and tape marks are removed. Household cleaners work well for removing most marks. Please do not use sharp objects or abrasives to remove tape or adhesive from the door's finish. GooGone works well at removing tape from the doors. Additionally, the hallway wall outside the room door should be cleaned and all staples removed.
    • Please note any unauthorized paint, stickers, picture hangers, decals, etc., must be removed from the walls, windows, mirrors, furniture, and doors. Do not try to fill or patch any holes in the drywall.
    • Leave all furniture in a usable and safe configuration.
    • Remove bikes from outside bike racks and take them home. Bikes left on racks will be removed and disposed of.

    Cleaning the Bathroom and Kitchen Areas

    • Clean bathroom/kitchen fixtures including sink, toilet, shower stall, etc. Clean off all soap scum buildup from shower walls, and grout lines. Use mildew/mold and lime remover if necessary. Please use non-abrasive cleaners on fiberglass showers. 
    • Sweep and mop bathroom and kitchenette floors.
    • Remove all food items from the refrigerator. Clean interior and exterior. Use a household cleaner or mild soap and water. After cleaning, leave plugged in and turn the thermostat to the #3 setting.
    • Clean the inside and outside of the microwave. Use mild soap and water.  Don’t forget to clean the inside ceiling of the microwave. Please do not use a scratchpad or abrasive powder on the plastic front of the microwave.
