On Saturday, February 9, 2013, between the hours of 7:00am and 4:00pm, CaTS will be conducting network and telephone maintenance in the basement of Allyn Hall. During this time, all land-line telephone service (including emergency telephones) and network access will be unavailable. Cellular phone service will still be available.

If you have any questions, or if you experience any problems with your telephone service after the maintenance times listed above, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or toll free at 1-888-775-4827. You can also send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.

CaTS Classroom News for Faculty-February 1, 2013

Friday, February 1, 2013

Below are some of the projects CaTS is working on to enhance the classroom environment. If you have questions or comments about any of these projects, feel free to contact the Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or 1-888-775-4827. You can also send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.

1) Classroom Features and Photos

CaTS and the Registrar recently enhanced the Classroom Features and Photos website. This website gives you information about all Registrar-scheduled classrooms, including equipment information and seating details, such as capacity and room layout. You’ll also find a picture of the instructor station and a panoramic video of the room. You can use this resource when deciding upon your room preferences for the Registrar or to see the layout of the room you are scheduled to teach in. This can be found at the following location, designed for faculty and advisors:

https://www.wright.edu/registrar/faculty-advisors

Please note: You must still contact the Office of the Registrar to schedule your classrooms or make any classroom assignment changes.

2) Emergency Signs

Please be aware of the new Emergency Signs located near the phone in campus classrooms. This is valuable information to know if an emergency happens in or near your classroom. The signs state that the fastest way to get a medical or police response is to dial x2111 from the classroom phone or 775-2111 from a cell phone. All signs should be in place by February 15.

3) VHS Capability in Classrooms

Please be advised that there are some electronic classrooms that no longer have the capability of playing VHS media. In the future, VHS players will not be replaced as classrooms are upgraded or when the VHS units become defective. A Blu-Ray DVD player will be installed in these rooms. Please check out your classroom equipment ahead of time to prevent any possible conflicts.

4) VHS Conversion Carts

Classroom Technology Support (CTS) now has 2 VHS Conversion Carts available for checkout. If you would like to begin converting your VHS media to digital, please call CTS at x3162 or stop by 017 Dunbar Library to reserve this equipment. CaTS encourages faculty and staff to begin transferring their VHS media to digital as soon as possible.

5) Teaching Station Signage to be Consolidated

In an attempt to reduce the clutter of instructional signage on or near the teaching stations in the electronic classrooms, CaTS will be installing Wall Mounted Reference Guides in the electronic classrooms. We will be doing this on a trial basis during the spring semester only in Millett Hall. If the guides are well received, we will begin placing them in all electronic classrooms. These guides will consolidate the existing signage into one easy-to-use location, mounted on the wall adjacent to the teaching station. To help make the rooms more instructor-focused, CaTS would appreciate any feedback you can give us regarding the use of these guides. Please send your feedback to helpdesk@wright.edu.

Mac Users: Problems with Java and Banner Admin Access

Friday, February 1, 2013

Please note: this message only applies to Macintosh users who access Banner Admin. If this is not you, please disregard this message.

A recent Apple update has caused the latest version (10.6) of Java for the Mac to be viewed as malware and rendered the software inoperable. This is the version that normally works with Banner Admin, but because of this update, access to Banner Admin may no longer work. CaTS is working on a solution to this problem until Apple releases a permanent fix. If you are a Macintosh user and are having problems accessing Banner Admin, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 to receive further assistance.

Reminder: Official University Calendar Switch

Friday, February 1, 2013

CaTS would like to remind you that as of today, February 1, the new RaiderMail calendar is now the official Wright State University enterprise calendar. This calendar should now be used to schedule meetings and appointments.

The previous Communications Express (WINGS) Calendar system has now been set to a read-only mode, so you will not be able to add or remove appointments on this calendar. You will be able to view this calendar until June 30, 2013, at which point it will removed. Until this date you can still access your calendar to copy or print your appointment history. If you would like assistance with copying or printing your appointment history, please contact the CaTS Help Desk.

As a reminder, appointments in the Communications Express (WINGS) Calendar were not transitioned to the RaiderMail Calendar. You must re-create all appointments and meetings.

If you would like addition information on the RaiderMail calendar, please visit the RaiderMail Help & Documentation Calendar Usage website, located at: https://support.wright.edu/raidermail/index.php?title=Calendar_Usage_Ins....

If you haven’t already, you may also want to consider attending a RaiderMail training session offered by CaTS. You’ll learn more about using the calendar system in the WSU environment. For a list \ of dates and registration information, see the following website: https://support.wright.edu/raidermail/index.php?title=RaiderMail_Training

As always, if you have any questions concerning the RaiderMail Calendar, you can also contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or toll free at 1-888-775-4827.

CaTS News for Spring Semester 2013

Friday, January 18, 2013

Here are some items CaTS would like you to know about. If you have questions about anything mentioned here, please contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937)775-4827, or toll free at 1-888-775-4827.

*Windows 8 Information*

As you may know, Microsoft recently introduced Windows 8, the newest version of the Windows operating system. CaTS, in conjunction with departmental tech coordinators, has been evaluating Windows 8 for compatibility with key applications and systems. At this time, there are no plans to install Windows 8 on university-owned computers in the near future.

Windows 8 is likely to introduce compatibility issues with important academic and administrative applications. The heavily redesigned user interface has also come under criticism from the industry and may prove difficult for many users to adapt to. CaTS has historically held off support for a major new OS version until the release of the first service pack and used that 6-9 month period for testing and evaluation. Windows 7 has now been widely adopted on campus and there are few compelling reasons to embark on upgrades.

If you have purchased a new computer for personal (not university) use that has Windows 8 installed, CaTS will offer our support, but cannot guarantee that we can resolve any issues with Windows 8.

*RaiderMail Calendar Information*

As was previously announced, Wright State University will be adopting the RaiderMail Calendar on February 1, 2013, as the new enterprise calendar. To help make your transition to the new calendar easier, CaTS has compiled a list of known issues that you may come across when using the RaiderMail calendar. The RaiderMail Known Issues website (linked below) contains information on these issues, along with resolutions (if any), and the current status of the issue. CaTS encourages you to report any issues you may come across when using the RaiderMail Calendar.
