Important Email Fraud Information

Friday, July 8, 2016

The Help Desk recently learned that some Wright State faculty, staff, and students are receiving notifications of fraudulent emails. Users are receiving malicious emails originating from forged  'wright.edu’ addresses. The sender and receiver addresses are the same, so it appears in your inbox as if you are receiving an email from your own Office 365 email address.

Email malware and phishing scams have increased over the past week and are targeting all Wright State members. Please be aware of these scams. Do not open any documents attached to a suspicious email or give out any personal information.

If you have any questions or receive a suspicious email, please contact the CaTS Help Desk immediately. You can reach us at (937) 775-4827, or email helpdesk@wright.edu.

If you have any questions about these scams, or if you have already opened or downloaded any attachments, please contact the CaTS Help Desk immediately. You can reach us at (937) 775-4827, or email helpdesk@wright.edu.

Office 2016 Update

Thursday, June 23, 2016

Microsoft recently released Office 2016 for Windows and Mac, featuring updated versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other popular applications. CaTS is now recommending that Office 2016 be installed on all university-owned computers.

If you currently use a university-owned computer that has Office 2010 or Office 2013 installed, we encourage you to upgrade to Office 2016. You can do this by installing the software through Software Center, or calling the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 and requesting the upgrade if you are using a non-domain PC or a Macintosh. The installation is free and in most instances can be done over the phone. For more information on using Software Center, visit https://www.wright.edu/information-technology/services/software-center.

Beginning October 1, 2016, all new computers purchased for university use will have Office 2016 already installed when you receive it, so no upgrade will be necessary.

Office 2016 will also be installed in all computer labs and electronic classrooms by the beginning of the 2016 Fall Semester. If you currently use Microsoft Office in any of your coursework, it is recommended that you begin revising that content to reflect Office 2016.

If you would like to learn more about Office 2016, you can find video tutorials on the Atomic Learning website. Visit the following link and login with your campus “w” username and password to access these videos. https://www.atomiclearning.com/highed/home?q=office+2016&selected_topics=All+topics&selected_categories=

If you have further questions about Office 2016 call the Help Desk at (937) 775-4827, or emailhelpdesk@wright.edu.
