Thursday, August 28, 2014

Recently, HP announced a voluntary recall for HP and Compaq PC laptop power cords for products and accessories sold between September 2010 and June 2012. The AC power cords have the possibility of overheating, which could become a fire and burn hazard.

Please note that not all HP and Compaq notebooks and mini notebooks sold during this time period have an affected power cord. If you believe you have one of the affected power cords, please be sure to check the website listed below to see if your power cord qualifies for the recall.

Urgent: Payroll Theft Scam Alert

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Recently, The Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin concerning a Payroll Theft Scheme aimed at universities. Through email fraud campaigns, individuals working at a university are tricked into giving away their credentials. Once the perpetrators have the user’s credentials, they use that information to access self-service portals to change direct deposit information.

Currently, Wright State does not allow the editing of direct deposit information through our self-service portal, but banking information and W2’s are viewable. This information could be used to steal an individual’s identity. It’s important to be alert to any emails requesting your username and password. Please remember, Computing and Telecommunications Services (CaTS) will never ask you for your username or password.

If you think you may have fallen for this type of scam, please contact the CaTS Help Desk immediately at (937) 775-4827, or toll free at 1-888-775-4827.
