Learn About Phishing Scams

Thursday, December 3, 2015

CaTS has noticed an increase in the number of phishing attempts targeting Wright State faculty, staff and students.

What are phishing scams?

  • Phishing scams are emails designed to trick you into sending an unknown third party your account information or other personal or financial information.
  • These emails may look like they’re coming from Wright State, CaTS, your bank or credit card issuer, or any other institution you do business with.

How can you avoid phishing scams?

  • Remember that CaTS, WSU, and other reputable businesses WILL NEVER ask you for any personal information, such as your username and password, via email.
  • Never respond to a suspicious email or click links in those emails.
  • Don’t give out your personal information to anyone via email.
  • Don’t download attachments from an email unless you trust the sender.

If you receive an email and are unsure if the message is a scam, feel free to contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827. We can help you determine whether the email you received is real or not.

Reminder: New Information About Your WSU Accounts

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

The next time you change your password, you will only have one password for both your campus (w012abc) and Office 365 (last.#@wright.edu or first.last@wright.edu) accounts. This change will reduce your  number of Wright State passwords from three to two.

For the steps you need to take the next time you change your password, see the following website:

https://www.wright.edu/information-technology/about/article/changes-to-w...

Important Notes:

  • Your UID and PIN will not be affected by this change
  • All password changes should be done through the “Change Password” tool in WINGS. See how: www.wright.edu/node/36664#pw
  • You will need to update your mobile device passwords for both your email apps and ‘WSU-Secure’ wireless network. See how: www.wright.edu/node/36664#mobile
  • The password change feature in Office 365 will still be available. However, using this feature will cause the passwords for your accounts to become out of sync. Doing this is not recommended by CaTS.

This change is the first phase of CaTS working toward a full Single Sign On service/system. Once all phases have been completed, this will allow users to sign into multiple services, including WINGS, WINGS Express, and Office 365, using one account.

For questions, you may contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827 or send an email to helpdesk@wright.edu.

Clear Wrong Password for Pharos Printing

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

When printing to a Xerox printer on campus, you may be presented with a log in box (the Pharos Popup client) when trying to print a document. If you enter a wrong password for your account, the Pharos client will continue to use that wrong password and stop you from being able to print. Here's how to clear the bad password so you can continue with your print job.

There are two ways to clear a bad password:

Option 1

Log out of or restart your computer, then log back in. The next time you print a document you will be able to re-enter your account information.

Option 2

Clear the saved password via the Pharos Popup Client Configuration utility.

  • For Windows, click Start Menu -> Programs -> Pharos -> Popup Client Configuration utility -> Click Clear Saved Answers Now
  • For Mac, click Macintosh HD -> Library -> Application Support -> Pharos -> PopupConfiguration -> Click Clear Saved Answers Now

If you are unable to successfully clear the bad password, contact the CaTS Help Desk at (937) 775-4827.
